La Royale is situated in the Cabardès region of Aude. Aude is a French
department
(or "county") of Languedoc-Roussillon, in Southern France.

The land stretches to where spectacular caves,
like the
pre-historic
Grotte (Cave) de Limousis,
are situated.
Here you will also find the biggest medieval fortress
in Europe ( Carcassonne ) and a rich heritage.

The
plain is dissected by the eighteenth century
Canal du Midi
and the river Aude where leisure activities of fishing,
canoeing and boat-hire can be enjoyed. |
The glorious countryside in this part of the South of France is shaped
by the crumbling ruins of medieval Cathare castles, small
pastel coloured villages with their traditions
and gastronomy, and a vibrant green carpet of vineyards,
which produce half of France's wines!

The beaches and coast
are only 50
minutes from the camping site and are bathed
by warm Mediterranean waters. Nearby, the lakes of the
Montagne Noire are surrounded by chestnut
trees and wild flowers, where swimming, water-sports and trout-fishing
facilities can be found.
